"Making Connections - One Circle at a Time"
Based in Surrey, BC, The "Intercultural Community Outreach Resources Society" (ICOR) exists to serve church-based ESL programs by providing a range of products and services tailored to individual needs. Of particular note, ICOR imports and distributes Intercambio resources into Canada for use by Canadian ESL programs (see below). Additionally, ICOR helps churches in the planning and implementing of strategies to make connections - one circle at a time - from the ESL classes into other ministries of the congregation
Located in Boulder, Colorado, Intercambio publishes ESL curriculum specifically designed for programs that use community volunteers as the teaching facilitators. They exist to serve community ESL schools, so their materials are excellent for church programs. They also provide free teacher training videos, as well as additional "partnership" support (including program coaching, live online seminars, and opportunities to connect with other organizations) at minimal cost. Compared to other publishers, Intercambio's volunteer-oriented resources are lower in cost, easier to teach, and simpler to learn - ideal for church-based ESL programs.

ICOR helps churches create and execute strategies that make connections from the ESL classes into other programs and ministries of congregational life. Church-based ESL programs can provide immigrant support in ways that language schools cannot - by connecting learners to the whole range of ministries that a given congregation has to offer. Additionally, ICOR helps churches locate resources for ESL Bibles, Bible studies, Alpha programs, and a variety of other useful materials.

The global pandemic has changed churches for good. Over the past two years churches have learned a lot about how to expand their ministries by going Online, and ESL programs have also risen to the challenge by creating Online and hybrid ministry models. Not limited to the classrooms in church buildings, ESL programs are able to go far beyond the walls, even engaging learners overseas. Local ESL facilitators can truly become "missionaries without passports" even as they are making connections with their surrounding communities.
